President El-Sisi Receives a Phone Call from President of Tunisia

President El-Sisi received this evening a phone call from President of Tunisia Kais Saied.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that both presidents discussed developments concerning the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue. The discussion, in this regard, was held in light of the UN Security Council session that is to be held to consider the GERD issue as Tunisia is currently a UNSC member.

During the call, President Saied affirmed Tunisia’s full support to ensure Egypt’s water security, an integral part of the Arab national security.

He also stressed that Tunisia supports the Egyptian-Sudanese move in the Security Council with the aim of strengthening the path of negotiations and reaching a fair and comprehensive agreement on the rules of the filling and operation of the GERD.

For his part, President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s firm position to reach a legally binding agreement that would achieve the interests of all parties and preserve the historical water rights of the two downstream countries.

His Excellency expressed his appreciation for Tunisia’s contributions, in its capacity as a Security Council member state. These contributions aim to break the stalemate and support Egypt's stance with the aim of reaching a binding agreement on the filling and operation of the GERD, the President added.

The Spokesman added that both presidents discussed bilateral relations as well as the latest developments regarding the COVID-19 epidemiological situation in Tunisia.
President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's full support for Tunisia, expressing his aspiration to promote cooperation and coordination between the two countries in all fields.
