Monday, 16 November 2020 / 04:52 PM

President El-Sisi held a meeting today with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine Al-Kabbaj.

As stated by the Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, the meeting was held to discuss the ministry’s programs regarding social development.

In this context, the Minister presented “Wa’ay” (Awareness) program that includes many initiatives benefiting the targeted families. These initiatives include programs for early detection of disability, family planning, child health, drug and addiction control and eradication of illiteracy as well as other programs aimed at forming positive societal values, trends and behaviors and combating poverty.

The President, hence, instructed that extra financing be provided through Tahya Misr (Long Live Egypt) Fund to support these programs and increase the number of the specialized employees needed for the awareness programs – especially the rural pioneers in this program. These efforts aim to spread and deepen the societal, educational and health messages of “Wa’ay” program, while prioritizing the creation of a database for this social work and the establishment of effective evaluation mechanisms to track progress.

The Minister also showcased the unified system for prosthetic limbs production in Egypt and the obstacles the ministry is facing to achieve its goals on this front. This system contains many pillars, most notably the collection of data electronically to create a database and the mechanism provided to make and receive requests for prosthetic limbs and devices, as well as the production, rehabilitation and physiotherapy centers. The Minister noted that more than one million new prosthetic limbs were produced throughout the past 5 years.

Accordingly, His Excellency directed that all governmental agencies concerned should properly coordinate their efforts and foreign expertise be drawn on in order to promote the production of artificial limbs in Egypt in accordance with the latest technical and technological advancements, while providing rehabilitation programs for those benefiting from these prosthetic limbs. This comes within the state’s efforts to empower those with a physical disability and re-integrate them in the labor market – focusing on the youth, children and women breadwinners.
