President El-Sisi met today with Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Ashraf Sobhy and Presidential Advisor for Financial Affairs Major General Mohamed Amin.
During the meeting, the final preparations made for organizing Men’s Handball World Championship, which is scheduled to be hosted by Egypt in January 2021, were presented.
President El-Sisi called for providing all resources needed to make this international sporting celebration a success and to help it become the largest sporting event in the world in which fans are allowed to attend for the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Spokesman stated that Dr. Sobhy presented the ongoing preparations at the level of the supreme committee concerned with supervising the organization of the Men’s Handball World Championship, including efforts to boost the sports' infrastructure. The Minister said that the tournament will feature 32 teams for the first time; 108 matches will be held in 4 different halls in three governorates. Moreover, there are 10 halls for the national teams to have their training. 1,100 volunteers will be chosen to help the tournament run smoothly. An intensive training program has been designed for teaching them how to deal with the national teams and delegations and the principles of first aid.
Moreover, the implementation status and financing aspects of the Egyptian Sports Fund, the first of its kind to support sports in Egypt, were discussed. In this regard, President El-Sisi gave directives for using the returns of this fund to support the Olympic champions, sponsor athletes and develop national programs for fitness and health.
