El-Sisi Receives US Senator Lindsey Graham

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Senator Lindsey Graham, Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs, and his accompanying delegation in the presence of the Head of the General Intelligence, and Thomas Goldberger, Charge d'Affaires at the United States Embassy in Cairo.

President El-Sisi expressed Egypt's appreciation for the role played by Congress in enhancing the strategic partnership between Egypt and the US and lauded the outstanding relations with the US administration under President Donald Trump. He noted Egypt's keenness to continue elevating and strengthening this partnership across various areas of cooperation.

Senator Graham lauded the strong relations that the two countries share and looked forward to further developing their strategic partnership. He expressed his appreciation for Egypt's key role as a cornerstone for security and stability in the Middle East and the Arab region. He highlighted Egypt's efforts to combat terrorism and extremism and to promote tolerance, acceptance of the other and peaceful coexistence as well as its diligent endeavors to resolve regional crises and to advance economic and social development in Egypt.

The meeting discussed means of enhancing bilateral ties and the situation in Syria, Libya and tension in the Gulf region. President El-Sisi explained that Egypt continues its relentless efforts to resolve regional crises that directly affect the region's and the world's security and stability. El-Sisi noted that Egypt primarily seeks to reach political solutions and support nation-state institutions so as to effectively combat terrorist groups that seek to undermine states and spread chaos. The President confirmed that Egypt supports positive engagement with all countries in the region and worldwide within a framework of mutual respect, refraining from interfering in domestic affairs and achieving common interests for the sake of the coming generations.

The meetings also touched on ongoing efforts to revive the peace process in the Middle East. El-Sisi noted that resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict should be based on the international resolutions, the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative. He confirmed that Egypt supports various efforts aimed at reinvigorating the peace process and resuming negotiations on this foundation so as to ensure the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. This shall make a new reality and allow the progress, security and peaceful coexistence of the region's peoples.
