President El-Sisi Receives Chairman of Sudanese Sovereignty Council

Today, President El-Sisi received in Al-Ittihadiya Palace Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council in the presence of the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Director of General Intelligence and the Egyptian Ambassador in Sudan.

As stated by the Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, His Excellency President El-Sisi welcomed his brother Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan. He referred to the eternal bonds between both nations of the Valley of the Nile, the historical bonds between Egypt and Sudan, the unified destiny and the common interests connecting both brotherly nations. The Egyptian President also stressed the Egyptian’s strategic position in supporting the security and stability of Sudan and its brotherly people, along Egypt’s keenness to continue cooperation and coordination with Sudan in all files of common interest. In addition, the President stressed the importance of pushing the swift implementation of joint development projects, such as: the electrical interconnection and the railway for both nations.   

His Excellency also pointed to his close supervision of all developments occurring in Sudan on regional and international levels, affirming Egypt’s support to Sudan’s will and choices of its political leaders in building the future of their nation. Furthermore, His Excellency welcomed all efforts aimed at helping Sudan in facing their current economic crisis for the benefit of the Sudanese people and preserving regional peace and stability.

From his side, Lt. Gen. Al-Burhan affirmed the strength of the historical bonds between Egypt and Sudan, praising the mutual efforts exerted to intensify the bond of joint cooperation between both nations and confirming the continuous coordination with Egypt regarding all mutual important files.

The Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereign Council also went over the current development in Sudan and the efforts made to handle the updates in this regard, including the recent peace agreement signed in Juba between the Sudanese government and a number of armed movements. He expressed his country’s appreciation for the unlimited support provided by Egypt for Sudan’s stability and safety and its support for success in this transitional phase.

Finally, the Spokesman added that the meeting saw an overall discussion regarding all regional issues of mutual interests and the latest developments in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue, in light of the recent situation of the trilateral negotiations (between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan) led by the African Union. All nations agreed on the absolute importance of the water issue for both the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples, as a matter of national security. Both countries adhere to reach a legally binding agreement that guarantees the clear rules of the filling and operation of the dam while preserving all mutual parties’ interests.
