Saturday, 09 January 2021 / 05:44 PM

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Amr Talaat, CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency Dr. Mohamed Afifi, Director of the National Telecommunications Services Company Major General Abdel-Hamid Mostafa, Director of the Signal Department Staff Major General Tarek Al Zaher, and Assistant Director of Signal Department Major General Mohamed El-Bashary.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the meeting reviewed the state's satellite communications system and the future uses of the Tiba-1 satellite.

The President directed the optimal use of Tiba-1 Egyptian satellite applications for the benefit of the state's communications and information technology sector, especially with regard to the government communication networks under implementation to connect the entire state's administrative apparatus. This is done for the application of modern systems for government work and in preparation for the transition to the New Administrative Capital, which would also support the comprehensive development efforts that the state is currently implementing on every inch of the land of Egypt, using accurate scientific methods and advanced technology.

In this context, the developments of the unified government network project to connect the state's administrative apparatus were presented so as to support government data handling and transmission in a safe, fast and advanced manner. Hence, the administrative apparatus would upgrade all government services provided to citizens within the general framework of the strategic project for digitizing the state and the ongoing preparations to move to the New Administrative Capital.

The President was also briefed on the most important potential uses of "Tiba-1" satellite, which will operate at full capacity during the second half of the year and would support the efforts of state agencies in all fields, particularly the efforts of developing and digitizing the state, combating crime and terrorism, and improving internet service in remote areas and for individuals and companies, in addition to contributing to enhancing the performance of government sectors, such as petroleum, energy and mineral wealth, trade, education, and health.

The meeting also touched on the recent success of the Egyptian Space Agency in winning the international competition for the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) to design a high-tech space camera to be installed on the International Space Station (ISS). This Agency is the first Arab and African space agency to achieve this scientific breakthrough, thus allowing Egypt to obtain, free-of-charge, high-resolution satellite imagery that are used for geological purposes, remote sensing, exploration and other applications that serve the State’s development efforts.
