Thursday, 04 March 2021 / 03:17 PM

My Dear Brother, Your Excellency President Umaro Sissoco Embaló,
President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It gives me great pleasure to warmly welcome my brother, His Excellency President Embaló, to his second country, Egypt, on his first visit to Cairo since he took office, wishing him a good and fruitful stay.

I take this opportunity to express our deep appreciation for the historical relations between Egypt and Guinea-Bissau and the close and mutual historical ties, dating back to the periods of national liberation in the African countries during the last century.

I have conducted with my brother, President Embaló, fruitful and constructive bilateral talks that reflected our common political will toward strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries in various fields. Hence, our capabilities would be optimally used to serve the interests of both countries.

We affirmed our determination to give a further push to our bilateral relationship and cooperation by boosting trade exchange and encouraging investment between the two countries.

Moreover, we agreed to intensify cooperation in transferring the Egyptian expertise, providing technical support and building capacities of national cadres in Guinea-Bissau. We also discussed the regional issues that concern the two parties, foremost of which is the issue of combating terrorism and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) file.

I clarified the determinants of the Egyptian position within the framework of the GERD negotiations and affirmed Egypt's continuous keenness to reach a fair and binding agreement to the filling and operation of the dam. This agreement shall guarantee that no harm is caused to the two downstream countries.

Your Excellency President Umaro Sissoco Embaló,

It has been my pleasure to meet with you today. I look forward to furthering our already close bilateral cooperation for the common interest we share with our African continent. I wish Guinea-Bissau and its people all the best, stability, and prosperity, and I welcome you again and Your Excellency’s accompanying delegation in your second country, Egypt.

Thank you.
