“In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful”

Ladies and gentlemen…European leaders,

I would like to welcome you today on your important visit to Egypt, which reflects the depth of the long-standing Egyptian-European relations throughout history. It also reflects the impetus these relations have recently gained at various levels: political, economic, and cultural, based on mutual respect and common interests.

Dear guests,

Egypt has always accorded special importance to the distinguished relations it shares with the European Union and its countries, stemming from our firm belief in the centrality of the partnership with the European Union to achieve the common political, economic, and security interests of both sides, and therefore supports the achievement of security, peace, and stability in the region.

Our meeting today reflects the depth of Egyptian relations with the European Union, Italy, Greece, Belgium, Cyprus, and Austria politically, economically, commercially, and culturally.

This meeting also coincides with a very significant stride in Egyptian-European relations, as we will witness the signing of the political declaration between Egypt and the European Union to elevate relations to the level of “Comprehensive and Strategic Partnership”.

In this regard, I would like to thank the President of the European Commission for her sincere efforts to advance the path of improving relations so as to achieve our common interests.

I would like to welcome His Excellency the Prime Minister of Italy and His Excellency the Prime Minister of Greece for their esteemed role in advancing and strengthening Egyptian-European relations, whether bilaterally or through the institutional mechanisms of the European Union.

I would also like to welcome His Excellency the Prime Minister of Belgium, and congratulate him on his country’s assumption of the rotating presidency of the European Union.
