President El-Sisi Follows Upon Development of Irrigation Water Management System

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Mr. Tarek Amer, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Aty, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Mr. Al-Sayed El-Quseir, Minister of State for Military Production Eng. Mohamed Ahmed Morsy, and Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization Mr. Abdel-Moneim Al Tarras.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the meeting discussed the developments of the irrigation water management system in the agricultural lands through relying on modern and smart means of irrigation.

The President was updated on the efforts to establish a smart irrigation system, adopting one of the latest irrigation techniques in the world. The system depends on producing advanced sensor devices to measure with high accuracy the soil moisture levels, thus achieving various benefits. Chief among them are the increase of the crop yield of agricultural lands and the provision of the quantities of fertilizers used and irrigation water; hence, rural families' income will be doubled.

In this context, the President directed that these devices be accessible for farmers at reasonable price and in sufficient quantities in coordination between the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) and the ministries of irrigation, agriculture, and military production.

The various aspects of the system of modern irrigation methods were reviewed. This system aims to raise the efficiency of water use, develop field irrigation systems, and increase agricultural productivity nationwide; several funding alternatives were further discussed.

The President underlined the importance of ensuring the success of the implementation mechanisms to modernize and develop irrigation systems at the national level. According to the President, this can be achieved through promoting integration with the various State’s efforts aiming to raise the efficiency of irrigation water management and reduce the losses. The national project for canal lining and raising the efficiency of sub water channels are on top of the list.

The importance of training the farmers in the operation and maintenance of modern irrigation systems was underlined by the President. To that end, counseling programs are provided by agricultural societies and media awareness programs targeting the framers and their rural families are promoted to get them introduced to the benefits and returns of modern and smart irrigation systems.
