President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi Meets the Prime Minister, Ministers, and Officials

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with ministers and officials following up on the strategy for the development of the pharmaceutical industry and the national project for the manufacturing and collection of plasma derivatives in Egypt. The meeting also reviewed progress in the establishment of national centers for training medical professional staff and the current status of the coronavirus pandemic in Egypt.

The Spokesman for the Presidency said the meeting reviewed the main aspects of the strategy which aims to support the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt. This comes within the context of studies conducted by the specialized national committee created for this purpose in order to localize the industry of pharmaceutical raw materials, oncology drugs and biotechnology, with the assistance of the expertise of specialized international companies.

There was a briefing on the history of the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt, through the manufacturing and production in various pharmaceutical plants that fulfil the needs of 80% of Egypt’s basic needs, in addition to exports. This reflected on the success of the healthcare system in Egypt to counter the coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic, by providing all treatment protocols.

President El-Sisi stressed the need to provide all necessary financial resources to support and develop the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt so as to enhance the state’s efforts to obtain the ability and technology required for the manufacturing and production. This is in addition to developing an integrated plan to boost the state’s efforts in this regard, and coordinating efforts by the various relevant authorities and specialized global companies of expertise.

On the national project for self-sufficiency of plasma derivatives, the spokesman noted that the meeting discussed progress in national efforts in partnership with the Spanish medical company, Grifols, regarding the localization of the manufacturing technology. The discussion also tackled developments in the establishment of plasma derivatives collection centers nationwide, in line with the highest international standards.

President El-Sisi stressed the need to fully scrutinize all phases of the manufacturing and collection of plasma derivatives in coordination with all relevant Egyptian bodies and the Spanish medical company. This aims to help ensure the efficiency of the performance in this vital project and enhance the capacity of the human cadres in charge of the system. This is in addition to organizing intensive awareness campaigns for the public so as to provide a better understanding of the direct impact of this national project and its importance in the field of health and public safety.

The meeting reviewed work progress in the establishment of an advanced regional, national center for the training of medical and healthcare professional cadres in Egypt. President El-Sisi confirmed the importance of increasing the number of these centers to three nationwide. This aims to cover all cadres working in the healthcare and medical system which will improve the level of healthcare services in Egypt, particularly by enhancing the field of medical education, vocational training and enhancing the capacity of technical skills in critical specializations.

The spokesman added that the meeting touched on the current status of the coronavirus pandemic in Egypt. It reviewed current infection rates at the local and international levels, as well as progress in the implementation of the national program for vaccination in light of the additional doses offered of various vaccine types.

With the advent of the new school year, President El-Sisi gave directives to strictly follow the vaccination system for students so as to preserve the safety and health of all students and staff in the educational system.
