President El-Sisi Receives Secretary General of the AfCFTA

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Mr. Wamkele Mene, in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Trade and Industry Mrs. Nevine Gamea.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the meeting addressed ways to bring the African Continental Free Trade Agreement into force following its official launch at the beginning of this year.

The President affirmed Egypt's full support for the activities and work of the agreement, which represents a promising start for continental integration in Africa, in pursuit of the desired economic and trade integration for the African countries. The President also asserted that Egypt is fully prepared to provide its expertise, in this regard, for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to enter into force, indicating that the stability factor is extremely important to provide a favorable environment for the success of the efforts and activities made to keep the agreement on track.

For his part, the Secretary General of the AfCFTA expressed his honor to meet the President, showing his eagerness to start his foreign trips in Egypt after the area is launched and expressing appreciation for the attention and close follow-up performed by the President to the relevant procedures, under his chairmanship of the African Union. Therefore, the President would announce the launch of the AfCFTA since Egypt is also one of the first countries to sign and ratify the agreement, in light of the pivotal role of the agreement in supporting development efforts in Africa by connecting the African markets, in a way that revives the industrial and agricultural sectors in African countries and develops Africa’s economic system.

In this respect, Mr. Wamkele Mene affirmed his keenness to benefit from Egypt’s inspiring development experience with a view to enhancing the efforts of the AfCFTA and achieving success.
