President El-Sisi Receives Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Mr. Ayman Al Safadi in the presence of the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the Deputy Prime Minister of Jordan conveyed to President El-Sisi the greetings of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. His Majesty expressed the deep appreciation that Jordan has for Egypt at the official and popular levels and its pride in the long-standing ties between the two brotherly countries.

King Abdullah II of Jordan expressed Egypt’s pride in the bilateral relations and in the tripartite cooperation mechanism with brotherly Iraq. His Majesty also stressed Jordan's keenness to benefit from Egypt's development efforts in all fields through encouraging the exchange of experiences and joint investment in light of the comprehensive development process and the major national projects being implemented in Egypt.

For his part, the President asked Jordan’s Deputy PM to convey his greetings to his brother, the King of Jordan, praising the strong brotherly relations between Egypt and Jordan and the significant advance witnessed in Egypt-Jordan relationship at various levels.

The President also expressed his aspiration to strengthen these relations in a way that contributes to achieving the interests of the two brotherly countries and peoples, especially on the economic and commercial levels. The President demonstrated his appreciation for the efforts of the Jordanian government to support the Egyptian community in Jordan.

The Spokesman stated that the meeting discussed the overall bilateral relations between the two countries. The two sides were satisfied about the level of bilateral coordination, highlighting the importance of strengthening economic relations and boosting bilateral trade to live up to the level of political relations and historical ties binding the two brotherly peoples.

During the meeting, the President and Jordan’s PM also emphasized the importance of boosting cooperation between the competent authorities in the two countries with respect to facing the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic.

They also commended the tripartite cooperation between Egypt, Jordan and Iraq, emphasizing the need to build on the outcomes of the last summit meeting in Baghdad last June and to take concrete measures that contribute to increasing coordination and promoting joint cooperation between the three countries, especially with regard to the projects of energy, electrical interconnection, and industrial complexes.

The Spokesman added that the meeting addressed the latest developments in the region, especially the situation in Lebanon, and in both Syria and Libya.

Views were also exchanged regarding the developments of the peace process in the Middle East and the ongoing coordination between the two brotherly countries in this regard. Hence, the Deputy Prime Minister of Jordan praised the tireless Egyptian efforts to stabilize a ceasefire between the Israelis and the Palestinians and commended Egypt's initiative to rebuild the Gaza Strip.

The two sides stressed the importance of intensifying efforts at the international level with a view to resolving the peace process and resuming negotiations to settle the Palestinian question based on the resolutions of international legitimacy.
