Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Minister of Religious Endowments Dr. Usama Al-Azhari; Governor of Cairo Dr. Ibrahim Saber; Advisor to the President for Urban Planning Major General Amir Sayed Ahmed; and Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Major General Walid Aref.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that the President followed up on efforts to revive Cairo’s Islamic and historic landmarks. The Minister of Religious Endowments reviewed the executive status of restoring and reviving numerous historic mosques and mausoleums. He noted that these ongoing efforts also include the opening of additional integrated tourist routes linking various historic and heritage sites and landmarks. He also pointed out that upon completing the work related to reviving historical landmarks, the "Heart of Cairo" will become an open-air destination attracting further tourism.
For his part, the Governor of Cairo highlighted efforts to revive several Khedival, historical, and Islamic landmarks in Cairo, as well as efforts to rehabilitate and upgrade the infrastructure in historic areas and their surrounding neighborhoods.
In this context, President El-Sisi emphasized the necessity for relevant state bodies to continue their efforts to revive Cairo’s various historic and heritage landmarks and to develop the surrounding areas in order to attract more tourists. The President further underscored the need to adopt a "Greening Cairo" project aimed at converting any cleared space into green areas.
The meeting also touched on the Egyptian Awqaf Authority’s plans to develop the various real-estate assets affiliated with the Ministry of Religious Endowments, alongside strengthening mechanisms for cooperation with specialized companies and real-estate developers. In this regard, the President reiterated the importance of continuing inventory and documentation efforts for the assets and properties of the Egyptian Awqaf Authority, in order to maintain and preserve the endowments and maximize their optimal utilization in accordance with the conditions stipulated by their original endowers.
