Today in Nicosia, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that the meeting began with the signing by the two presidents of a joint declaration elevating relations between Egypt and Cyprus to the level of a strategic partnership.
This milestone marks the culmination of the distinguished and longstanding historical ties between the two countries and their friendly peoples.
President El-Sisi expressed his pride in visiting Cyprus, extending his appreciation to the Cypriot side for their generous hospitality and reception.
For his part, the Cypriot President welcomed President El-Sisi’s visit and his participation in the consultative meeting held among a number of Arab and European leaders and European Union officials.
He emphasized that the meeting represents an opportunity to exchange views on regional and international developments.
President El-Sisi praised the level of bilateral relations and cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus across various fields.
The President highlighted the importance of continuing efforts to upgrade bilateral ties to achieve mutual interests, particularly in trade, investment, labor, tourism, and energy sectors.
The two leaders also discussed the latest developments regarding the linking of Cypriot gas fields to Egyptian infrastructure for the purposes of domestic consumption and export from Egypt.
The Cypriot President hailed the growing trajectory of bilateral relations, valuing Egypt’s efforts in combating illegal migration and stressing the need for the European Union to share the burden with Egypt as it hosts large numbers of refugees.
He also lauded the level of political consultation and coordination between Egypt and Cyprus on regional and international issues in support of regional peace and security.
In this context, President El-Sisi and the Cypriot President discussed the latest regional developments. President El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s endeavors to de-escalate tensions in the region and restore peace and stability, particularly in relation to the Iranian issue.
President Christodoulides expressed his appreciation for Egypt's efforts in this regard and praised the President's valuable contributions during the meeting between EU members and regional partner countries.
He noted that the Egyptian vision for the regional situation was highly valued by European leaders.
The two presidents also exchanged views on developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
They reaffirmed the necessity of fully implementing the agreement to end the war in the Strip, the urgent and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip, and the swift initiation of the reconstruction process.
