"Ask the President" at 6th Youth Conference

• On the century’s deal:

- Egypt is working with the parties concerned to resolve the Palestinian cause and achieve reconciliation. We are mitigating the Palestinians’ suffering in Gaza.

- The President posed a question to the audience: before the 30th of June, who asked the army to intervene so as to save the state? The people or the army? In November 2012, who called in the army to announce its initiative? The army took action and intervened willingly to protect the Egyptian state. There was no intention to topple the state; we have surmounted the difficult times.

- The fourth-generation wars may topple and bring the state into bay, there is no way out but to confront it. Egypt has undergone difficult times over 2013, most notably the attempt to assassinate the Minister of the Interior. Many Egyptians fell as martyrs and victims to establish security and stability; we will combat terrorism without compromises with any party.

- Suez Canal have reached a breakeven point and covered expenses of the New Canal.

- As for the exodus of nationals repatriated from Libya and other countries due to conflict eruption, job opportunities were made available by the state;

- All support extended to Egypt by brotherly countries amid the 3rd of July 2013 incidents is indeed laudable, particularly the oil supply.

- With regards to foreign reserves, a figure of 45 billion USDs was realized.

- Vehicles loaded with weapons, ammunition, and other smuggled items are destroyed daily. The security status is stable; the army and the police are exerting strenuous efforts in this regard. We will neither interfere in any country’s affairs nor conspire against anyone. However, we support the Libyan army and the expeditious holding of elections.

• With Regard to Egypt's plans for Africa under Egypt’s Presidency of the African Union 2019:

- The continent is countering a multitude of crises and is overwhelmed by developments. We seek the to achieve the best for the sisterly countries of the continent in the pursuit of resolving all pan African crisis.

• Regarding the municipalities dossiers:

- I hope the Parliament would adopt the municipalities law to put in place a legislation uprooting corruption. The relevant bill will come into force soon. Corruption will be eradicated via automation of transactions and prevention of human interference. A full-fledged anti-corruption plan will be developed.

• As to the Egyptian citizenship law:

- Egypt is the homeland of 100 million Egyptian citizens and 5 million other nationalities, treated like Egyptians and provided all services. Citizenship is granted as per strict terms and conditions set forth by the Minister of Interior for persons desiring to hold the Egyptian citizenship.

- In 2020, natural gas self-sufficiency will be achieved, and during the next phase, plenty of new projects will be inaugurated to serve the Egyptian people. Tariffs in the railway sector will not increase until development works are completed.

• On the government’s austerity and salary-cut policy:

- We always work on curbing spending and rationalizing consumption. An agreement has been reached with the Minister of Finance to resolve this problem, and it is pretty cut and dried.

• On advancing education and overpopulation dossiers:

- The state is exerting all and every effort in grappling with overpopulation.

- Universities and schools will be adequately prepared for Egyptian students. A contest will be held among universities to choose the best. Then, the top university will undergo further advancement.

• On female air-force fighters and military prosecutors:

- We have looked into this situation well and there are indeed females in the army and the police, but not in combat positions. However, this does not mean that women potentials are any less significant. The matter is yet subject to further probing.
