Al-Haramlik Palace

It all started in 1982 when Khedive Abbas Hilmi II built a palace on a high hill and called it "Al-Haramlik", shortly the palace turned into an architectural marvel.
Montazah Palace remained the summer palace of Mohamed Ali dynasty till King Farouk came to the throne. The Palace was erected on an elevated plateau engulfed by gardens and groves stretching over a 370-feddan area with a unique collage of Ottoman-Islamic and Florentine style. Lush gardens envelopes flowers, plants, trees, playgrounds, children's park, summer theater and a center for marine sports.

Montazah Palace is the sole bystander of historic Arab and global events. The Palace court gladly hosted the first Arab Summit in 1968. Furthermore, "Al-Haramlik" Palace accommodated US President Carter in his visit to Egypt during President Sadat era.

Built by King Farouk in the early 1940s following the resemblance of royal palaces architecture of Montazah area. The Royal Automaton Clock Tower of Montazah Palace sets the tone of the entire setting. At the top of each hour the doors of the clock open and an Automaton soldier heralds the emergence of four golden statues of King Farouk announcing the new hour with the chimed melody of the national anthem.
The palace is also famous for its tea kiosk in Roman-style, overlooking the Mediterranean coast. It is also known for the Princesses Cinema next to the King's Palace fenced in a garden with a large wall customized to showcase international movies to entertain the princesses.
The palace contains a lift for the upper floors made of the rarest types of wood. The Palace is enclosed in exuberant gardens known as Montazah Gardens.

Montazah Palace was built on a hilltop engulfed by gardens and groves stretching over a 370-feddan area heralding the last of royal palaces during the royal epoch. It stands tall radiating a distinct Florentine-style architecture and girdled in gardens and groves.
Facing the palace, boldly stands a royal greenhouse established by King Fouad in 1934. The 3-thousand-meter greenhouse boasts of the rarest of plants that managed to survive time. It further houses 75-year old evergreen tropical plants.
The palace court comes surrounded by upper floors, including royal suites. The marble court floors and geometrical-shaped column bases speak of beauty and splendor. Stained glass windows and gates mesmerize and captivate beholders in a magnum opus.

The palace was mainly used for the royal family's entertainment; it was their summer residence every year.

On Saturday morning, March 10, 2018, the Egyptian Gazette published the ministerial decree of Dr. Khaled El-Anani, Minister of Antiquities promulgating including El-Selamlik Palace located in the gardens of Montazah Palace, Alexandria in Islamic and Coptic monuments archive.
