Al Aziz Frigate is considered a huge technological addition to the capabilities of the naval forces and to enhancing their naval ability to protect Egypt’s national security. It is one of a total of four MEKO-A200 frigates ordered.
The frigate is characterized by its ability to sail for a distance of 6800 nautical miles, at a maximum speed of 28 knots, for a total length of 121.6 meters, and a displacement of 3,931 tones. It also enjoys a multitude of technical features and modern armament systems that enable it to execute all combat missions at sea in times of peace and war. It is also capable of addressing various maritime threats (on sea surface, in the air and under the sea surface), combating smuggling and illegal migration, and safeguarding the state’s various natural resources and wealth at sea. This is, in addition to securing the country’s allied shipping lines and trading vessels and implementing humanitarian relief operations in disaster areas.
The frigate is considered the most advanced in the Egyptian Navy. It is an addition that enhances the naval ability to achieve maritime security, protect the economic borders and interests in both the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, thus becoming a deterrent force that provides freedom for secure maritime navigation in light of the challenges besetting the region.
