Today, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Ali El-Moselhy, Minister of Interior, Major General Mahmoud Tawfiq, Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, and Minister of Social Solidarity, Nevin El-Kabbaj.
The Spokesman for the Presidency said the meeting followed-up on social protection measures undertaken to counter the repercussions of the current global economic crisis.
The President gave directives to expand social protection measures by implementing the following:
-Increasing the number of families benefiting from the “Takaful and Karama” (Solidarity and Dignity) program by adding an additional one million families to the program, taking the number of the beneficiaries to more than 20 million citizens nationwide.
-Disbursing exceptional aid to 9 million families for the next 6 months, at a total cost of about one billion pounds per month for the neediest families and pensioners, who receive a monthly pension of less than 2,500 pounds, as well as workers in the state’s administrative apparatus who receive a salary of less than 2,700 pounds per month.
-Enhancing food security for poor families, mothers and children, by expanding the delivery of subsidized food commodities at half the cost, at a rate of 2 million boxes per month, to be distributed at the armed forces outlets.
-The Ministry of Awqaf, in partnership with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, shall distribute sacrificial meat throughout the year.
-The Ministry of Finance shall provide the necessary financial resources in this regard, amounting to about 11 billion pounds.
Minister of Social Solidarity, Al-Kabbaj, reviewed in this regard the social programs currently provided by the state, the most important of which are subsidizing bread and food commodities, medium cash support, health programs support, insurance and pension funds, and housing support. The Minster noted that the total expenditure on those activities from the state’s general budget have increased over the previous years, reaching nearly 500 billion pounds in the current fiscal year’s budget. The Minister of Social Solidarity also reviewed progress in “Takaful and Karama” program over the past six years, especially with regard to nearly doubling its budget.
The President also followed-up on the current status of the stock of basic strategic commodities, particularly grains, corps and oils. The Minister of Supply noted that the stock of these commodities is sufficient for a period of 7 months. He stressed that the state has developed its storage capabilities through the establishment of a new silos’ system. This system enabled the state to counter emergencies and crises and provide the necessary needs during the Coronavirus crisis and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
