President El-Sisi Meets with the Palestinian President

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi today received Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at Al-Ittihadiya Palace.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency said the meeting discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian question and the Middle East peace process.

President El-Sisi confirmed that Egypt is continuing its diligent efforts with regard to the Palestinian question, in close coordination with the Palestinian brothers. This aims to help the Palestinian people restore their legitimate rights in accordance with international legitimacy.

President El-Sisi underscored the importance of concerted efforts during the coming period to support the Palestinian stance on a political settlement and move toward the resumption of negotiations. The President also stressed the importance of firming up the truce between the Palestinians and Israelis, in parallel with efforts to achieve Palestinian unity by completing the reconciliation process among all Palestinian factions and actors and by supporting the Palestinian Authority and its role in the Gaza Strip. This is in addition to improving the humanitarian, living and economic conditions in the sector.

Palestinian President Abbas expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s vigorous efforts and valued endeavors in support of the Palestinian question. He also lauded Egypt’s historic, firm and ongoing role in this regard with the aim of achieving a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian question.

Furthermore, President Abbas noted that Egypt’s historic role was recently underpinned by its effective and key role in reaching a ceasefire agreement with Israel and the subsequent initiative by President El-Sisi for the reconstruction of Gaza.

The Palestinian President asserted that Egypt’s efforts demonstrate the profound and special characteristics of the Egyptian-Palestinian relations in light of the longstanding bonds shared by the two peoples.

President Abbas further highlighted his personal keenness on the constant consultation and coordination with President El-Sisi on the overall Palestinian situation and the determinants of the Palestinian stance for a settlement.

The Spokesman stated that, during the meeting, the two Presidents agreed to continue intensive coordination and consultations on various issues of mutual interest in order to follow up on the next steps with regard to supporting the Palestinian question in the various fora and at all levels.
