President El-Sisi Meets the Chairman of Australia’s FFI

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Chairman of Australia’s global green energy company Fortescue Future Industries, FFI, Mr. Andrew Forrest. The meeting was also attended by Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mohamed Shaker, and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Eng. Tarek El Molla.

The Spokesman for the Presidency said the meeting followed-up on cooperation between the Australian company and the electricity and renewable energy sector in Egypt in the areas of green hydrogen and green ammonia production. This included a project to produce 9.2 gigawatts of electrical energy from new and renewable energy, and to localize industries related to the generation of electricity from the sun and wind, such as solar panels and wind turbines.

President El-Sisi gave directives to give all facilitations necessary to expedite the implementation of joint green power projects and to benefit from the advanced expertise of the Australian company in this field. This comes in light of Egypt’s interest to keep up with the global energy trend to increase the use of renewable energy. This also comes within the framework of the national strategy that seeks to increase the contribution of renewable energy to the electricity energy mix, stemming from the state’s interest to diversify the sources of electrical power production and leverage Egypt’s natural wealth.

FFI Chairman, Mr. Forrest, confirmed that he was honored to meet with the President. He valued the huge capabilities and resources of the renewable energy sector in Egypt which qualify it to become an international hub for the production of green power. He also underlined his company’s keenness on cooperating with Egypt in this area in addition to benefiting from the production of green hydrogen as a source of clean energy.
