President El-Sisi Receives Albanian Prime Minister

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received today at Al-Ittihadiya Palace Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania Edi Rama.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that President El-Sisi welcomed the Albanian Prime Minister, expressing Egypt's pride in the friendly relations and historical ties between the two friendly countries at the official and popular levels. The President also highlighted Egypt's aspiration to expand cooperation with Albania in various fields and forums.

The President also congratulated Albania for holding a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council during the period from 2022 to 2023, expressing appreciation for the two countries’ agreement on views related to most regional and international issues.

The President also showed his appreciation for the positive coordination in various international forums, stressing the importance of periodic political consultation with Albania, especially in light of Albania’s appreciated efforts and views in the Balkans to advance peace and stability and promote regional integration so as to achieve prosperity for the countries of the region. Furthermore, Albania’s active role in addressing some international crises should be taken into account.

For his part, the Albanian Prime Minister expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the President, stressing the strength of the historical ties between the two friendly countries. Prime Minister Edi Rama also expressed Albania’s aspiration to boost bilateral cooperation with Egypt in all fields, especially in light of Egypt's tireless efforts to maintain international peace and security and its pivotal role regionally in the Middle East and the Mediterranean Basin.

The Albanian Prime Minister also confirmed his follow-up to the unprecedented development efforts made in Egypt under the leadership of the President in recent years. The Prime Minister also indicated his country's interest in benefiting from the relevant inspiring Egyptian experiences and applying them in Albania.

The Spokesman added that the meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in light of their historical depth. The meeting also addressed aspects of economic cooperation and means of boosting bilateral trade and increasing mutual investments in various sectors, in line with the nature and importance of political relations between Egypt and Albania.

The meeting also discussed views on the successive developments at the regional level. In this context, they agreed on the importance of maintaining stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region and respecting the sovereignty and rights of states with regard to their natural resources and their exclusive economic zones. This should be done in accordance with the rules of international law and the principles of good neighborliness.

Additionally, coordination efforts between the two friendly countries in the field of combating terrorism and extremist ideology were discussed. The meeting also highlighted the importance of building on the successful experiences of Egypt and Albania in promoting religious tolerance, thus limiting the activities of extremist groups in the region.

The Albanian Prime Minister praised Egypt’s experience in spreading the true moderate Islam and combating religious intolerance and hatred. Prime Minister Rama also also commended President El-Sisi’s appreciated efforts to preserve the values of coexistence, tolerance and acceptance of others, renew religious discourse, and ensure freedom of belief, in light of an integrated strategy for human building.
