President El-Sisi Participates in a Working Breakfast with U.S. Republican Leaders

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi participated in a working breakfast with a number of U.S. Republican leaders at his residence in Washington.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency said that President El-Sisi stressed the strategic and strong Egyptian–American relations. He emphasized Egypt’s appreciation for the role played by the United States House of Representatives in strengthening the partnership between the two countries. The President also expressed that Egypt looks forward to further strengthening this partnership in various areas of bilateral cooperation, within a framework of mutual respect and common interest. In addition, President El-Sisi expressed keenness to communicate with the various decision-making circles in the United States in regards to coordination and consultation between the two friendly countries on various issues.

The U.S. Republican leaders expressed that they were honored to meet President El-Sisi, stressing that Egypt is a major ally of the United States in the Middle East. They also expressed their appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role as a pillar of security and stability in the Middle East, the Mediterranean Basin and the African continent. They also commended Egypt's successful efforts in confronting the threat of terrorism and extremist ideology and establishing concepts of religious tolerance. In this regard, the Republican leaders lauded the proportionate and balanced actions Egypt takes under the leadership of the President to find solutions to the many crises in the region.

A discussion was held between President El-Sisi and the Republican leaders who were keen to listen to his visions on the overall regional situation in the Middle East and international issues of common concern.

The meeting also discussed the developments in the issue of the Renaissance Dam. President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's firm position, which aims to preserve Egypt’s water security by reaching a legally binding agreement on the rules for filling and operating the dam to ensure the natural, historical flow of Nile water to Egypt. It was noted that the fact that Egypt totally relies on the Nile River for its water supply should be taken into consideration. The U.S. House of Representatives members expressed they fully understand Egypt's concerns and its stance on this sensitive issue that is related to Egyptian national security.
