Speech of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in a joint press conference with President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Roman Radev.
Your Excellency, Roman Radev
President of the Republic of Bulgaria, and the accompanying delegation
Ladies and Gentlemen,
At the outset, I would like to welcome our distinguished guest, His Excellency the President of Bulgaria, on his first visit to Egypt which marks the culmination of the rapprochement between the two countries in recent months. Last October, I met with Prime Minister of Bulgaria to discuss means of upgrading various areas of cooperation. Today, we continue these fruitful talks that reflect the strong will of the two countries towards the promotion of bilateral relations at all levels, especially political and economic ones.
I would also like to emphasize my pride in the two countries' long-standing ties that have taken place over more than nine decades which have witnessed many aspects of cooperation and joint coordination. This confirms our firm belief in the multiplicity of opportunities and potentials of cooperation that serve the interests of the Egyptian and Bulgarian peoples.
In this context, I am pleased to announce the launch of the Egyptian-Bulgarian Joint Business Council as one of the most important outcomes of the visit of the Bulgarian President to Egypt. Being a key mechanism for enhancing economic relations and increasing investments and trade exceeding $1 billion, we expect the said council to bring about positive outcomes, thus making Egypt the first trading partner for Bulgaria in Africa and the Middle East.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
We held a constructive meeting today, during which we discussed means to enhance bilateral relations regarding politics, economy and military, as well as cooperation within the framework of multilateral institutions and forums. We also reviewed regional and international issues of common interest to deal with a number of current crises in order to reach peaceful solutions, thus emphasizing the need for continuing coordination and communication between us in support of the stability of the Middle East and the Balkans.
During the meeting, I and President Radiv exchanged views on means to enhance joint cooperation and security coordination against terrorism. We also stressed the importance of the concerted international efforts to confront and eradicate it. I also reviewed the Egyptian vision concerning the importance of developing a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism with its various aspects and to fight countries and bodies supporting such extremist organizations. We also addressed the crisis of illegal immigrants and means of addressing it since we share the same responsibility and bear the same burden. In the same context, I highlighted the responsibility that Egypt shoulders when it comes to securing its borders or hosting huge numbers of refugees. On this occasion, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for Bulgaria's balanced positions regarding the developments in Egypt, which reflect a clear understanding of the escalating challenges we face in the midst of the difficult regional reality we are living.
In conclusion, I would like to reiterate Egypt's pride in its deep historical ties with Bulgaria, which constitute a strong basis for launching our bilateral relations to a wider horizons and meeting our common aspirations. I also wish to renew my welcome to His Excellency the President of Bulgaria and to thank him for inviting me to visit Bulgaria. I would like as well to express that I’m immensely proud of His Excellency and I’m looking forward to working together for the benefit of our two friendly countries and peoples.
Thank you!
