Today, in New Alamein City, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received President of the State of Eritrea Isaias Afwerki, on the sidelines of the Alamein Africa Business Forum.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, stated that President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for the Eritrean President’s keenness to participate in the forum, which represents an important platform for promoting cooperation and economic integration among African countries. The President underscored Egypt’s pride in the deep-rooted historical ties and close political and strategic relations with Eritrea.
The President further stressed Egypt’s commitment to building on these distinguished relations and translating them into tangible economic and development projects and partnerships across various priority sectors, thereby achieving shared interests of both countries and their brotherly peoples.
The meeting touched on regional developments, particularly in the Horn of Africa. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the security and stability of Eritrea, as well as respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The President reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any violation of the sovereignty of states or infringement upon their territorial integrity, in breach of the principles of international law and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
The President also highlighted Egypt’s keenness to maintain coordination and consultation with Eritrea on regional issues of common concern, contributing to the enhancement of stability in the Horn of Africa, supporting efforts to resolve crises through peaceful means, and fostering cooperation to ensure security and stability in the Red Sea.
For his part, President Afwerki expressed his appreciation for the close relations and growing cooperation between the two countries, praising the level of political coordination and ongoing consultation with Egypt on various regional issues. He also affirmed that the two countries share a broad alignment of views regarding regional developments, particularly concerning the necessity of respecting state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs.
He expressed his appreciation for President El-Sisi’s reaffirmation of Egypt’s steadfast commitment to developing bilateral relations and elevating the level of cooperation between the two countries across various fields, in keeping with the depth of their historical ties and the distinguished political relations.
