The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said President El-Sisi welcomed President Tshisekedi, commending his participation in the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which reflects the depth of the historical and fraternal relations between Egypt and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The President stressed Egypt’s continued backing of the peace agreement between the DRC and Rwanda, under the auspices of the United States, as well as the Doha process between the Congolese government and the “M23” movement. The President emphasized that Egypt supports all efforts that contribute to achieving peace and stability within the DRC.
The two presidents discussed the latest developments in the implementation tracks of the Washington and Doha processes and ways for Egypt to support their execution and address any potential challenges. The two presidents also discussed developments related to the Nile water issue and cooperation among the Nile Basin countries, confirming the alignment of views between Egypt and the DRC on the matter, and the importance of applying the principle of consensus among riparian states sharing transboundary international rivers. This, they affirmed, is the guarantee for achieving mutual interests without hindering development or obstructing the aspirations of African peoples. In this context, President El-Sisi stressed Egypt’s sincere commitment to ensuring the success of the consultative process within the framework of the Nile Basin Initiative, as an inclusive platform capable of serving the interests of all Nile Basin countries, away from intransigence or unilateral actions of a political nature.

The two presidents agreed to continue close coordination on issues of mutual interest. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide all forms of support to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. President El-Sisi emphasized that Egypt’s foreign policy is based on principles, values, and respect for international law. It does not conspire, threaten, or use force to achieve its interests, and that it aims to promote stability and peace in friendly countries for the benefit of their peoples.
