Phase One of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project has commenced operations, stretching 35 km from the intersection of the Ring Road and the Alexandria Agricultural Road to the Police Academy station.
The project includes 14 stations, categorized as follows:
Adly Mansour: A non-standard (atypical) interchange station.
2 Surface Stations with Pedestrian Bridges: Bahtim and the Police Academy.
11 Surface Stations with Pedestrian Tunnels: Alexandria Agriculture Road, Colonel Ahmed Abdel Rahim, Shubra-Banha, Mostorod, El Khosous, El Marg, El Qalag, Zakat Foundation, General Ibrahim El Oraby, El Salam, and Suez Road.
The BRT is an eco-friendly mass transit system designed to provide premium service to commuters. All buses in the fleet are electric and air-conditioned, manufactured locally as part of Egypt's initiative to localize various industries, including bus manufacturing.
As a major artery, the BRT helps link the east and west of the capital while providing a direct connection to the New Capital via a fast, modern, clean, and safe transit mode. It integrates seamlessly with other transport networks, offering interchanges with:
Metro Line 1: Al-Zahraa and El Marg stations.
Metro Line 3: Adly Mansour and Imbaba stations.
Light Rail Transit (LRT): Adly Mansour station.
Buses run every 3 minutes (20 buses per hour), which will decrease to 1.5 minutes during peak hours to ensure high-quality service.
Throughout Phases One and Two, 100 electric buses will be deployed. Each bus has a capacity of 70 passengers (equivalent to 5 microbuses), moving approximately 3,200 passengers per hour in both directions.
