Development and Upgrading of Alexandria Station

The Alexandria Station is the second oldest station in the Middle East and Africa after Misr Station (Ramses Railway Station) in Cairo. The station’s upgrading plan comes within the framework of the political leadership’s keenness on implementing the integrated development plan for the development of Alexandria Governorate.

The Development Process included:

-Restoring the historic façade of the station; strengthening the roofs; improving all sidewalks, ticket halls, and the parking lot; preserving the station's archaeological character and historic shape; in addition to modernizing and changing the entire network of facilities.

-Improvement and construction work were also made to the sidewalks along with the offices, the station’s façades, passenger toilets, the station’s VIP lounge, and the station’s mosque. The development process also included upgrading the station’s building; extending water, fire and signal lines; and establishing an information network. Other upgrading targeted the electrical and lighting works, the pedestrian tunnel, the electricity building, and the external yard of the station and station square.

The Projects’ Objectives are:

-Preserving the architectural shape of the station’s buildings, removing distortions and transgressions, and restoring the buildings’ original image.

-Re-employment and leveraging of the internal spaces of the stations to provide large areas for investment activities, which generates additional income for the Authority.

-Increasing the movement of travelers and tourists, as a direct result of improving the complementary services delivered at the stations.
