A total of 1,067 carriages have arrived as part of a deal to manufacture and supply 1,350 new carriages, the largest and most massive deal in the history of the Egyptian National Railways. This deal was signed by the Egyptian National Railways Authority and the Russian company Transmashholding, representing the Russian-Hungarian alliance.
The project of the 1,350 new passenger carriages includes 850 air-conditioned carriages divided into (500 air-conditioned third-class carriages, a new service being provided to passengers for the first time in the history of the Egyptian National Railways; 50 air-conditioned third-class buffet carriages; 180 luxury second-class carriages; 90 luxury first-class carriages; and 30 luxury air-conditioned buffet carriages) and 500 third-class carriages with dynamic ventilation.
It is scheduled that the new carriages, which are arriving successively, will be integrated into the daily railway operation schedule. This means that citizens will see the entry of 3 completely new trains each month, consisting of locomotives and carriages, all new; which will contribute to the continuous improvement of the service provided to passengers and a significant qualitative leap in the level of the railway carriage fleet.
