Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi participated in the opening session of the 8th African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting and the Regional Economic Communities, hosted by the Arab Republic of Egypt in New Alamein.
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said African leaders serving on the African Union Bureau for this year, and the heads of African Regional Economic Communities and regional mechanisms, participated in the meeting. Discussions focused on progress regarding the African Union’s theme for 2026, ‘Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems’. The meeting also addressed the latest continental efforts to enhance coordination and integration among Africa’s Regional Economic Communities, advance the African Union’s institutional development processes, and operationalize the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
The opening session started with the playing of the national anthem of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the AU official anthem, followed by addresses by the President, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and the President of the Republic of Burundi, the current Chairperson of the African Union.
