Speech by President El-Sisi at Luncheon Hosted for Heads of African States and Delegations

Sunday, 04 October 2026 / 03:25 PM

"In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful”

Brothers and sisters,
Allow me once again to welcome you all to your second home, Egypt. I would like to express my profound appreciation for this established format, which brings me together with my esteemed brothers, their Excellencies the Heads of State of the participating countries, alongside a distinguished selection of delegations, senior business leaders from across the African continent, and representatives of major international corporations operating within Africa.
We gather today at a momentous moment defined by intricate and formidable challenges facing the world at large, and our continent in particular. This critical reality necessitates unprecedented African solidarity, among both nations and organizations, anchored in the firm conviction that our continent's strength is rooted in its unity and the integration of its economies.
On this occasion, I extend a message to the international corporations joining us today, hand in hand with African business leaders, affirming that Africa today is no longer merely a consumer market, but a promising industrial and technological partner. This is particularly evident in the continent’s vibrant youth, who constitute the vast majority of its population; a conscious, educated, and ambitious generation striving for greater opportunities.
In the same context, I extend an invitation to you to strengthen efforts toward technology transfer and the localization of industry across African markets.
I also invite you to contribute to the continent’s major national projects, primarily infrastructure projects, development corridors, renewable energy, and other strategic ventures, given the promising investment opportunities they offer.
African nations must swiftly transition from the mere export of raw materials to the creation of added-value chains, while diligently working toward localizing industries across the continent. This shall establish an African market capable of enduring crises and external shocks, thereby safeguarding the supreme interests of our peoples and securing the future of coming generations.
Egypt has been a pioneer in championing the conclusion and entry into force of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement. I urge all of us to work hand in hand to accelerate its operationalization and to strive toward eliminating tariff and non-tariff barriers, thereby facilitating the seamless flow of goods, services, and capital across African states.
Allow me to seize this opportunity to emphasize that economic growth cannot be attained in isolation from an equitable global financial architecture.
In this regard, I point out that African nations today shoulder heavy burdens as a consequence of a climate crisis not of their making. They are also subjected to unfair financing conditions, in addition to an unprecedented surge in borrowing costs and debt service.
Prompted by these realities, we advocate once more from this platform for the imperative reform of the international financial structure, the provision of innovative and concessional financing mechanisms, and the granting of carbon tax exemptions.

In conclusion, I wish to express my sincere appreciation to you all for honoring this invitation, and I look forward to continuing our constructive dialogue.
Thank you
