Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting with Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly; Advisor to the President for Health and Prevention Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din; and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Martyrs and Victims Honoring Fund, Major General El-Sayed El-Ghaly. The fund honors the martyrs, as well as victims, missing and the injured of military and security operations and terror attacks and their families. Also in attendance were Chairman of the Board of Directors of Locomed Egypt, Major General Dr. Eid El-Tawil, and Head of the Technical Committee for Managing the Prosthetics Project and General Manager of the Company, Major General Dr. Mohamed Metwally.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said the President followed-up on the latest developments of the prosthetic devices project and the state's efforts through various concerned agencies to establish a comprehensive industrial complex for prosthetics and assistive devices in Egypt, in accordance with the latest international technological and medical standards, in cooperation with global experts.
The meeting confirmed the state's commitment to providing prosthetic devices with the highest levels of efficiency and standards. This is part of the efforts to provide the best support and empowerment for people with mobility impairments to enhance their independence and full integration into society, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt's Vision 2030.
During the meeting, the President followed up on the localization of the prosthetic and artificial limb industry, aiming to provide high-quality prosthetic devices produced by trained Egyptian hands. It was noted that the first phase of the project to establish seven centers for assembly and alignment is underway, in coordination with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, the Egyptian Unified Procurement Authority, and in partnership with the German company "OttoBock."
The President directed the necessity of governing the contracting procedures with manufacturers of prosthetic devices. This is to ensure compliance with technical specifications and international quality standards, the approval of contracts according to clear regulations, the periodic evaluation of company performance, and ensuring that products meet the specific needs of the beneficiaries.
President El-Sisi also gave directives to expedite steps to acquire the manufacturing capabilities for prosthetics and assistive devices according to internationally recognized standards. This includes establishing an integrated service industrial complex to provide services to individuals with mobility impairments, from a humanitarian, ethical, and religious perspective. The President highlighted the possibility of developing the industrial complex into a regional center of excellence to provide these services to mobility-impaired patients across the region, utilizing Egypt's current potential in the field of prosthetics and assistive devices.
