President El-Sisi Receives Call from President of the European Council

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from President of the European Council, Mr. Charles Michel, this evening.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that, during the call, they discussed several issues of common interest between Egypt and the European Union. On top of the issues discussed were means of strengthening bilateral relations between the two sides at all levels and coordination efforts on the most important regional issues, especially in light of the upcoming EU Summit which is to be held this month.

The Spokesman stated that the various aspects of the institutional relationship between Egypt and the European Union and its political, economic and developmental axes were discussed. They also emphasized on the importance of enhancing cooperation and mutual dialogue in this regard to consolidate friendly relations between them in light of the common interests and challenges.

They also discussed the coordination between Egypt and the European Union regarding many important international and regional issues, especially the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean Region and Libya. A consensus was reached on the importance of reinforcing consultation between the two sides in this regard and further working on reaching a comprehensive political settlement to the Libyan issue in accordance with international references so as to provide the people of the region with stability and a better future.

The Spokesman added that they discussed prospects of cooperation between the European Union and Egypt in the fields of development and maintaining peace and security in the African continent. The importance of ensuring a continuous European support for African countries, with regard to the health and food sectors particularly, to face the repercussions of the coronavirus was emphasized. Moreover, they stressed the need of encouraging the major European companies to establish more investment projects in the continent and enhancing joint cooperation to address illegal immigration and terrorism in Africa since they jeopardize regional and international peace and security.
