President El-Sisi, President Ramaphosa Discuss Renaissance Dam File Developments on Phone

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today from President of the Republic of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa.


The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that both presidents discussed the developments of the Renaissance Dam file, in light of the fact that the African Union, chaired by South Africa, sponsors the tripartite negotiations between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia.

The President reiterated the Egyptian constant stances regarding the Renaissance Dam, especially with regard to the resumption of the tripartite negotiations to formulate a binding and comprehensive legal agreement between all concerned parties regarding the rules of the filling and operation of the dam and the rejection of any action or procedure affecting Egypt's rights to the Nile waters.

On his part, President Ramaphosa expressed his aspiration to have a continuous intensive coordination between the two countries during the coming period so as to resolve the current situation and reach a fair and balanced agreement on this vital issue.

The Spokesman added that, during the call, both presidents discussed some issues concerning the bilateral cooperation between Egypt and South Africa and exchanged views on the developments in a number of regional issues and files related to the African Union.
