President El-Sisi Receives Phone Call from British PM

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi received, today, a phone call from British Prime Minister Mr. Boris Johnson.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that they discussed the ongoing preparations for the COP 26 UN Climate Change Conference which will take place in Glasgow, UK.

Moreover, they stressed the need to strengthen coordination between the two countries to ensure that this session would bring about positive results to help promote the efforts of the international community amid the current global climate crisis.

This discussion was held in light of the importance of the Egyptian role concerning climate issues at the regional level as well as the efforts made by Egypt to host the next session of the conference during 2022.

They also touched on the most prominent files of bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to develop them in the fields of defense, security, and combating terrorism, particularly. Means to revive tourism from Britain to Egypt was also discussed.

The developments of a number of regional issues of common interest, especially the Libyan issue, were also addressed. It was agreed to support the existing political track in order to hold the elections as scheduled by the end of this year. In addition, they stressed that it is important to have all foreign forces and mercenaries leave the Libyan territory.

The Spokesman added that both President El-Sisi and Mr. Johnson discussed the developments of the Renaissance Dam issue. In this regard, President El-Sisi stressed the importance of reaching a fair and balanced legal agreement on the filling and operation of the dam in a manner that preserves Egypt’s water security, achieves the interests of all parties, and maintains regional stability.

It was added that the international community should continue to play a serious role in this file and all parties should show goodwill and political will in the negotiation process in conformity with the presidential statement issued in this regard by the UN Security Council.
