President El-Sisi Receives a Phone Call from his French Counterpart

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received this evening a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron.

Spokesman for the Presidency said that, during the call, they reviewed a number of regional files, especially the situation in Libya. President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s position in supporting the unity, stability and security of Libya and the will of the Libyan people. He also said that Egypt supports the efforts exerted by the Libyan National Army aiming to combat terrorism and eliminate Armed organizations and militias that pose a threat not only to Libya but also to the regional security and the Mediterranean region.

French President, Macron, affirmed the need to resolve the Libyan crisis to end the status quo which poses a threat to the security of the entire region. Within this framework, it has been agreed on the need to intensify joint efforts.

The call touched on the latest developments in the Sudan, affirming Egypt's support for the choices and will of the Sudanese people in light of Egypt's firm position in respecting the sovereignty of the Sudan and preventing any kind of intervention in its internal affairs for the benefit of the Sudanese people.

The call also focused on a number of issues related to bilateral relations, where the two presidents stressed keenness to develop joint cooperation between the two countries in various fields and expressed their aspiration to continue to work to advance the distinguished relations between the two countries. President Macron expressed his aspiration to meet with President El-Sisi on the sidelines of the upcoming G7 summit in France in 2019.
