President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Information, Mr. Osama Heikal.
The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that President El-Sisi stressed the importance of the media’s role in shaping the citizens’ awareness, in light of the developments at the national and international levels and in presenting all opinions and differing views. This is in addition to consolidating social values and constants, and combating extremist ideology. In this context, President El-Sisi directed the Ministry of Information to promote these messages, by formulating relevant media policies and achieving coordination and harmony within the system of information, including national bodies and institutions regulating press and media in Egypt.
The President also directed the Ministry to strengthen the concept of professional media in Egypt within a disciplined framework to keep pace with the great development in the field of media in the world and to be able to ward off the dangers of rumors and the rapid interaction with the pace of escalating regional events in the region. This is in addition to adhering to the application of media professional standards and focusing on the youth and the younger generations, in a way that contributes to the state's efforts aiming to enhance the potentials of Egyptians.
The Spokesman added that Mr. Heikal reviewed the Egyptian media strategy in light of regional and international developments, including axes and steps in the short and long terms, as part of a media policy aiming at achieving more openness to all political forces and spectra. The strategy also aims to maximize the impact of the Egyptian media locally and regionally and to convey the actual image of Egypt and its history and civilization and to raise societal awareness, in addition to raising awareness of the most important national and development projects currently witnessed in Egypt.
Mr. Heikal also made it clear that the Ministry of Information is looking forward to making the best use of the human capabilities and expertise that Egypt has in the field of media and to strengthening mechanisms and criteria of selection, training and institutional development of national cadres.
