President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received this evening President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta at Al-Ittihadiya Palace, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Sameh Shoukry, and Director of General Intelligence.
The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that President El-Sisi welcomed his brother, President Kenyatta to Egypt. He expressed his appreciation for the close historical relations, joint cooperation and common visions binding the two countries. His Excellency also affirmed Egypt's keenness to strengthen relations and consolidate strategic cooperation with Kenya in various fields.
The President also congratulated President Kenyatta since Kenya has been elected as a non-permanent member of the Security Council the non-permanent seat in the Security Council 2021-2022. He expressed his confidence in Kenya's ability to fully represent the African continent, voicing and defending the African issues at the United Nations.
On the level of bilateral relations, President El-Sisi stressed Egypt's keenness to provide Kenya with its development expertise in the field of national mega projects, especially in the sectors of infrastructure, housing, utilities and roads, through specialized Egyptian companies that have acquired extensive experience and expertise in this field.
From his side, President Kenyatta expressed his country's great appreciation for its extended historical relations with Egypt. He stressed Kenya's keenness to develop bilateral cooperation with Egypt and to seek assistance from Egyptian companies operating in the field of infrastructure, especially in light of the Kenyan national development plan which is also based on the axes of health, low-cost housing, industrialization, and food security.
The Kenyan president also praised the pivotal role that Egypt plays in the region in terms of maintaining peace and security. He also commended, in this regard, the Egyptian positions aimed at achieving stability in the Horn of Africa and east Africa, which were reflected in the support Egypt offered to resolve the pending issues in this context during the last period, especially while it was chairing the African Union.
The Spokesman stated that, during the meeting, they discussed the latest regional developments of mutual interest, especially with regard to the Renaissance Dam issue. The President emphasized the utmost importance of the water issue for the Egyptian people as it is a national security issue. His Excellency also added that Egypt adheres to its water rights by reaching a legal agreement ensuring clear rules for the filling and operation of the dam and achieving the common interests of all parties. It has been agreed to intensify coordination between the two countries on this vital issue during the coming period, the Spokesman added.
