President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, in the presence of Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Sameh Shoukry and Algerian Ambassador to Cairo Mohand Ladjouzi.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the President asked that his greetings be conveyed to his brother President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and praised the historical and fraternal bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The President stressed Egypt's keenness to develop bilateral cooperation with the sisterly country of Algeria in various fields, in a manner that reflects the depth of the brotherly bonds between the two peoples. This is an integral part of Egypt's policy that always seeks to promote cooperation, construction, and development and to support all efforts aimed at achieving these goals and values.

For his part, the Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra conveyed to President El-Sisi the greetings of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, stressing Algeria’s pride in the close and distinguished relationship it has with Egypt at the official and popular levels.

The Foreign Minister of Algeria further demonstrated his country’s interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation with Egypt and intensifying work to explore new horizons for cooperation. He also commended Egypt’s several accomplishments made under the leadership of President El-Sisi, particularly with regard to combating terrorism, promoting security, stability, development, and addressing regional issues.

The Spokesman added that the meeting discussed prospects for bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries. Furthermore, they confirmed the political will and common desire to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and Algeria and to widen channels of communication, particularly when it comes to facilitating bilateral trade and promoting investment.

They also expressed keenness to support political coordination and promote security and information sharing in the fight against terrorism and extremist ideology, which represent a threat to the entire region.

The meeting also discussed a number of regional issues of common interest, especially the situation in Libya. Their common political will and shared desire to strengthen the relevant Egyptian-Algerian coordination frameworks were emphasized.

The main goal is to activate the will of the Libyan people. This would be achieved through supporting the institutions of the Libyan State and the current efforts made to achieve Libya’s security and stability and to preserve its unity and sovereignty. To that end, the relevant UN and international decisions have to be implemented with a view to support the holding of the elections as scheduled, next December, without delay and having all forces and mercenaries out of Libya.

They also discussed developments in the situation in Tunisia. In this regard, a consensus was reached on the need to support all that would maintain stability in Tunisia and implement the will of the Tunisian people in order to preserve their wealth and the security of their country.

The latest developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) file were also presented. President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's firm stance to protect its historical rights to the Nile waters and preserve its water security.

In this regard, His Excellency stressed that all concerned parties, showing real political will, should take part in the negotiation process so as to reach a comprehensive and legally binding agreement on the filling and operation of the GERD.
