This morning, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a delegation from the US Congress headed by Senator Richard Shelby. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, also attended.
The Spokesman for the Presidency stated that the President welcomed the US delegation and noted the importance that Egypt attaches to constant communication with the Congress leaders, within the framework of coordination and consultation between the two countries on various issues, also within the framework of the well-established relations between Egypt and the United States. The President confirmed Egypt’s keenness to further strengthen these relations within a framework of mutual respect and common interest, in light of tension in the region, resulting in mounting challenges.
The delegation members affirmed the great importance that the United States attaches to its relations with Egypt and valued the distinct level of cooperation between the two countries. They further noted that Egypt is the cornerstone for security and stability in the Middle East and the Arab world, in addition to being a key partner for the United States in the region. This is while stressing great appreciation for Egypt’s effective and successful role, under the leadership of the President, in achieving stability and security in Egypt after combating terrorism and extremism successfully and establishing the noble concepts and values of freedom of belief, in addition to the great efforts to achieve comprehensive development.
The Spokesman added that the meeting covered ways to enhance relations across a number of fields, especially at the political, military and economic levels, as well as regional and international developments.
The meeting also touched on the developments of the Palestinian issue. The Congress delegation praised the Egyptian efforts in support of the peace process. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's firm position in this regard to reach a just and comprehensive solution that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people, in accordance with international references, which shall open prospects for coexistence and cooperation among all the peoples of the region.
