President El-Sisi met today with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Public Business Sector Mr. Hisham Tawfik, Minister of Trade and Industry Ms. Nevine Gamea, and Director of the National Service Projects Organization (NSPO) Major General Mostafa Amin.
The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that, during the meeting, the strategy of the automotive and electric vehicles industry in Egypt and the Egyptian cotton system were discussed.
The Spokesman stated that the President called for focusing on the future prospects of the electric vehicles industry, in cooperation with international specialized companies. It was added that this industry would contribute to keeping pace with global progress in the automotive industry, preserving the environment, as well as localizing the automotive industry in Egypt and increasing local production, the Spokesman added.
The President also gave directives to the officials concerned for continuing the State’s plan which aims to enhance the spinning and weaving industry and help Egyptian cotton regain its past glory. In this regard, a vision for the cotton system including the agricultural, trade and industrial aspects was outlined so as to make the utmost use of the available potentials, the Spokesman stated.
The Spokesman also stated that, during the meeting, the various industrial and trade aspects of the aforementioned strategy were reviewed, in light of the fact that Egypt has a promising market for the transportation industry in general, especially electric cars and buses. This approach is adopted within the framework of the State’s tendency to expand the strategic social, economic and environmental projects aimed at lifting the burdens from citizens’ shoulders.
The efforts aiming to modernize the textile sector, especially in terms of developing ginneries and manufacturing as well as the cotton cultivation process in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, were also presented. These efforts are being exerted in this regard since the fact that this industry is labor-intensive and that Egypt has competitive advantages with regard to cotton production at the international level, given its high-quality and unrivalled reputation in international markets, the Spokesman added.
