President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Wednesday in New York with a number of influential US figures that included former officials, journalists and heads of research centers in the U.S.
The Spokesman for the Presidency stated that President El-Sisi welcomed meeting with this selected group of American figures, which has contributed to the decision making process on issues that affect the US national security, mainly the interests of the US in the Middle East.
President El-Sisi confirmed the importance of the strategic Egyptian-US relations and the need to further enhance all their aspects in the interest of the national security of the two countries. President El-Sisi noted that Egypt's foreign policy is balanced and seeks to seriously engage with various decision-making circles in the US.
President El-Sisi looked forward to the support of the US to Egypt's developmental experience and its ambition to achieve comprehensive economic development. This shall provide opportunities for increasing and developing US investments in Egypt so as to achieve mutual benefits for both sides. Additionally, the Egyptian market is a key to the US companies and economic interests in the Middle East and Africa.
President El-Sisi engaged in an open dialogue with the attendees and gave remarks on a number of domestic and regional issues.
With regard to countering terrorism, President El-Sisi confirmed that one of the main aspects of the strategic Egyptian-US relations is combating a common enemy that is terrorism. President El-Sisi referred to the great achievements that Egypt has made to combat terrorism at the military, developmental and intellectual levels in light of the unprecedented security threats that the Middle East is facing as a result of the proliferation of terrorism and terrorist groups. This is in addition to the support that a number of countries in the region is offering to those groups as well as safe havens, funds, weapons and safe passages these countries are providing.
As to the main regional issues, President El-Sisi confirmed that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict remains one of the main causes of political instability in the region. Reaching a comprehensive and just peace that is based on the international resolutions and the two-state solution will allow the region's countries to attain stability and will open prospects for development, improve the living conditions of the region's peoples and dry up the sources of terrorism.
President El-Sisi noted that it was important for the international community to join forces in order to support national institutions, implement the frameworks of a comprehensive political solution for a number of crises in the region and avoid military solutions that have led to severe negative repercussions on all levels.
