In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It gives me pleasure to welcome you all, Presidents and Heads of Arab delegations and representatives of trade union organizations, entrepreneurs’ organizations, and international and regional organizations, as well as honorable guests. Welcome to your second homeland Egypt, the land of peace, love and fraternity.
In the name of the Arab Republic of Egypt, I am honored to inaugurate this edition of the Arab Labor Conference, wishing you all a pleasant and fruitful stay and a successful conference.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Our Arab nation is a nation with a civilization deeply rooted in history, encompassing the elements of success, progress and sophistication, which enhance the means of joint cooperation and integration, including language, civilization, religion, and culture and neighborliness. Elements like this and others represent the key to a comprehensive Arab renaissance, if properly leveraged.
It is also necessary to point out that our Arab world is facing numerous challenges imposed by the current world order and the ongoing events and developments, which affect and are affected by the world of work, given their repercussions on our Arab countries, notably in the field of employment and unemployment reduction.
There are new patterns of work, emerging as a result of modern changes and developments in the world of work, which is now living abrupt and profound developments.
No doubt that all this imposes upon us the need to move toward developing appropriate strategies to promote comprehensive Arab development, ensuring their enforcement on the ground, strengthening economic cooperation, and sharing information and expertise among ourselves.
This also necessitates removing obstacles and impediments for the sake of integration among Arab countries and finding new and advanced mechanisms to bring about comprehensive regional Arab integration.
This shall take place by facilitating intra-trade, the exchange of commodities and services, and capital transfer, enhancing joint investments, and easing the movement of manpower between our Arab countries.
We are fully confident that this will not be realized through mere wishes. Instead, we have to take serious and swift steps, uphold the national interest of the Arab nation, avert any disagreements among us, and even overcome them in furtherance of our common developmental goals.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
On this occasion, I cannot miss praising all efforts, measures and decisions made by our Arab countries to address the crisis of the coronavirus pandemic, curb its impact on the work environment and employment particularly irregular employment, preserve the rights and gains of all workers, and take care of their interests.
I would also like to praise the Arab Labor Organization’s move to introduce new topics in line with the international developments and to provide real job opportunities to the youths. Those efforts, particularly, aim to advance the economic empowerment of women, help integrate people with special needs, and combat the worst forms of child labor, which will help realize development and prosperity for the Arab economy.
I am fully confident that this conference will be of a real value added to that of the joint Arab action, either in terms of the topics set for discussion or the outcomes, recommendations and resolutions emanating from it.
Finally, allow me to extend my gratitude and appreciation to the Arab Labor Organization for its active efforts in support of Arab countries in all fields of work, particularly enhancing societal dialogue, providing decent jobs, and strengthening social protection. I would also like to express my gratitude and appreciation to all delegations participating in this conference despite the impediments imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
I wish you and the entire world safety, praying Allah Almighty to help us all serve our peoples and realize the aspirations of our societies for progress, welfare and prosperity.
Thank You.
May the Peace, Mercy and Blessings of Allah Be Upon You.
