Mohamed Hosni Mubarak

• He was born on May 4, 1928, Monufia.
• He joined the Military Academy and received a Bachelor of Military Science in February 1949.
• He became an officer in the infantry corps in the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade for 3 months.
• He joined the Air Force Academy and received a bachelor’s degree in aviation science in March, 1950.
• He pursued his postgraduate studies at Frunze Military Academy in the Soviet Union in 1964.
• He traveled to the Soviet Union (USSR) in different missions and became the Commander of the Bomber Brigade and the Acting Commander of Cairo West Airbase until June 1966.
• He became the Chief of the General Staff of the Air Force in 1969 then the Commander of the Air Force in April 1972.
• He became the Commander of the Egyptian Air Force during October 1973 War. He was promoted to Lieutenant General after the war came to an end in February, 1974.
• Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat nominated him as the Vice-President (1975 – 1981).
• After Al-Sadat's assassination, a public referendum was held after which Mubarak assumed power.
• He restored Egypt's membership in the League of Arab States that had been frozen since the Camp David agreement, and it had its headquarters in Cairo again in 1989.
• He played a major role in the peace negotiations initiated by President Al-Sadat and was able to restore Taba in 1989.
• Several vital projects have been established in his era such as the Metro in Cairo and Giza, El-Salam Canal in Sinai, and Toshka and Sharq El-Owaynat projects.
• On February 11, 2011, he stepped down 18 days after the 25th of January Revolution. He transferred power to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.
• He passed away on February 25, 2020.
