The Inauguration of the Renovation and Restoration of Al-Sayyida Zainab Mosque

 

The renovation and restoration of Al-Sayyida Zainab Mosque (may Allah be pleased with her) are part of the Egyptian State's plan for the construction of houses of worship in general, and its interest in historical Cairo and the mosques of Prophet Muhammed's descendants “Ahl al-Bayt”, in particular.

The renovation and restoration works included:

- The mosque's area of 11,792 square meters

- The minaret's height of 48 meters

- The mosque can accommodate up to 11,123 worshippers

- The mosque has 220 marble columns, 130 lanterns, and 100 chandeliers

- The external courtyard of the mosque was paved with the finest types of granite

- To prevent crowding of visitors and worshippers during peak times, the number of doors has been increased

- The exterior walls of the mosque were entirely covered with ornate stone in framed patterns

- In the external courtyard of the mosque, there is the shrine of Sheikh Al-Atrees and Al-Aydrouse, borne on 6 marble columns with two small domes atop

- The mosque is crowned by a minaret and the dome of the shrine serves as a luminous beacon for Islamic architecture

- The main mihrab in the center of the mosque was covered with the finest and most precious marble and engraved with noble Quranic verses and the last phrase

- The interior walls were transformed into wooden and marble art panels

- The shrine was renovated with the most precious stones
