"Mahmoud Said Museum" is located inside the palace where the pioneering artist Mahmoud Said lived, in the Gianaclis neighborhood in eastern Alexandria. This palace has been transformed into an integrated cultural and artistic complex known as "Mahmoud Said Museums Center".
"Mahmoud Said Museum" is one of the most important institutions documenting the journey of modern Egyptian art. It houses a rich collection of the artist's works, reflecting the evolution of his artistic experience throughout various stages of his life. His paintings highlight the features of the Egyptian people, particularly women, in scenes marked by dignity, calmness, and deep humanity. Alongside these, there are depictions of landscapes and social scenes, in a style that blends European academic influence with a clear Egyptian specificity in both features and environment.
The museum consists of seven exhibition halls containing more than fifty oil paintings, in addition to a number of sketches and preliminary studies. It also showcases a collection of photographs of the artist and his family. The museum holds rare personal belongings of Mahmoud Said, including: his private studio, his tools (brushes, paints, and easels), his eyeglasses, and his artistic library. Additionally, some of the original furnishings of the palace have been incorporated into the museum’s display.
The museum also features a collection of medals and honors that Mahmoud Said received throughout his career, including the "State Appreciation Award in Arts" in 1959 and the "Order of Merit, First Class," which he was presented by late President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1960, as well as various medals and certificates of recognition that underscore his prominent position in the history of Egyptian art.
