Second Phase of Greenhouse Project at Mohamed Naguib Base

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has opened the second phase of the Mohamed Naguib sector of protected agriculture. The project is built on an area of 10 thousand feddans and includes 1,300 greenhouses. Production will be equivalent to about one million feddans of traditional crops.
The greenhouse project is considered the largest in the Middle East. It aims to bridge the gap between production and consumption and maximize the utilization of agricultural lands while rationalizing the use of irrigation water by a rate ranging between 15% to 20%.
The base includes 1300 greenhouses made with according to the latest international standards. The single greenhouse extends over 3 to 12 feddans on an area of 500 feddans. The project also includes a plant for packaging the products and a seed production complex.
The project contributes to rationalizing the use of water and developing new varieties of cotton, as well as providing fresh vegetables, seeds and nurseries, manufacturing and marketing centers and research and innovation centers. It also contributes to increasing Egyptian agricultural exports, establishing integrated agricultural development societies and providing more than 15,000 job opportunities for youth.
The project was implemented by the National Company for Protected Agriculture of the National Service Products Organization of the Armed Forces. The company implemented the project also to create 10,000 farmhouses and complementary production activities on an area of 100,000 feddans in several areas including Al-Hamam in Matrouh, Tenth of Ramadan city, Ismailia, Lahoun in Fayoum, Al-Fashn in Beni Suef governorate and Al-Adawi in Minya. Moreover, modern technologies are applied in greenhouse projects to rationalize water.
