Nasser City Project (West Assiut)

Nasser city is located in the western Assiut Plateau, one of the fourth generation cities, and the first in Upper Egypt. President el-Sisi gave orders for completing its establishment quickly and putting it forward for implementation as a city that contributes to solving the housing and unemployment problems in Assiut and attracting more new investments that contribute to achieving sustainable development in the governorates of Upper Egypt. El-Sisi named it “Nasser City” in memory of the late leader Gamal Abdel Nasser, who was raised in Assiut.


Nasser City is 170 meters above the ground level and 25 kilometers away in the west of the Nile River in Assiut. It is about 28 kilometers away from the new city of Assiut. Two roads lead to Nasser City, which are the ring road leading to Assiut International Airport and another road that is designed to be 22 km long passing through the western Assiut Plateau.


The strategic plan for Nasser city "West Assiut" was adopted after President Sisi’s approval on allocating an area of 6,6 thousand feddans of the state-owned land at the highest point in the Western Plateau to establish a new urban community containing residential, industrial, economic and regional services.


The first phase of the city of "Nasser" in Assiut includes the first and second districts, an area of about 1600 feddans, 27 thousand housing units and 6680 social housing units, as well as 7160 average housing units.


685 distinctive residential plots in Nasser city were allocated in the western plateau with areas ranging from 500 to 1000 meters for the establishment of (villas, buildings) after making a public lottery.

- Total investments amount to about LE 3.5 billion, in addition to LE 2 billion in support of the facilities.

- The western plateau road in West Assiut is more of an axis road than a development road; it is called “urbanization road”.


1- Contributes to achieving a real urban, agricultural, economic, touristic development in the governorate.


2 - Aims to solve the housing problems by the establishment of 3 urban communities on its two sides, with an area that is 10 times the size of the current city of Assiut.


3 - Contributes to the reduction of real estate and housing units prices in addition to its contribution to the support of the industrial areas and the creation of larger areas for diverse industries.


4 - Preserves the agricultural land, reduces the slums to save about 15 kms when heading from city of Assiut to Assiut International Airport.

It links between a network of regional roads which are the western road, "Cairo - Sohag", "Cairo - Kharga", the agricultural road, the eastern desert road and "Assiut Road - Red Sea and El Geish Road", which contributes to increasing trade exchange between the governorates and attracting new investments to the governorate.

- There are construction works for 60 buildings, including 1440 housing units above the average of "Egypt's housing" and 66 buildings including 1584 social housing units. The foundations started to be laid in the first quarter of January 2018.


- The coordination with the Central Egypt Electricity Distribution Company is in progress to feed Nasser City from the Reefa substation with a capacity of 10 MVA and an initial voltage of 11 KV until a special substation is in operation in the new Nasser city.


- Coordination with Nile Valley Company to supply new Nasser city with natural gas is in progress together with the work of the making of drawings and for the “commercial - residential – industrial” structural uses. The consultancy work is under completion for carrying out the necessary studies to detect the location of groundwater for the construction of wells for this urgent phase in accordance with the measurements and implementation of the well as a temporary solution to the problem of water in the western plateau, reaching a depth of 160 meters below the surface of the earth.


- Approximately 550 thousand cubic meters of roads have been cut off, and the leveling and operation of some roads have been completed. The work of filling has started with a quantity of about 50 thousand cubic meters of layers for the lowland areas.


- The work of the water station is being done as a permanent solution to the water problem in the western plateau area. A station will be built on an area of area of 32 feddans and it will be supplied with a water line with a length of 13 km from the Nile River.


- The digging of the well will be finished as an urgent solution to the problem of water in the western plateau until the completion of the construction of a water station for the city of Nasser as a permanent solution.


- The implementation of the 22.6 km long double road lying between the plateau is running. It penetrates rugged rocky terrain, linking Assiut with a number of regional roads, most notably the Cairo-Assiut Western Desert Road and the Assiut Ring Road which also includes the construction of a 1.8-long bridge in Durunka.


- The infrastructure of the Nasser City’s West Plateau Project is being implemented to complete the utilities works in the project.

- A total of 685 distinctive plots of land have been allocated in the west plateau in Nasser city with areas ranging between 500 m2 to 1000 m2 for the establishment of "Villas-Buildings" through an open lottery held in cooperation with the New Urban Communities Authority in accordance with the requirements and specifications in the terms of reference.


- The first phase of the city includes the first and second districts with an area of about 1600 feddans and includes the construction of 27 thousand housing units, some of which are social housing units, 6680 medium housing units and 7160 distinguished housing units (Sakan Misr) and plots of lands, villas and buildings.


- The social housing project, which consists of 66 buildings, comprising 1,584 housing units, is scheduled to be completed in June 2019.
- An area of 140 feddans has been allocated to create an Olympic sports city.


- An area of 10,000 square meters was allocated to the location of the land in Nasser City by the New Urban Communities Authority for the establishment of a Coptic Orthodox Cathedral.


- A 185 feddans of land were allocated for the establishment of a modern technological university.


- The city includes educational, recreational, religious, health and industrial zones, comprising small and medium industries, commercial and governmental services, and administrative services, as well as malls and logistics areas.


- 37 feddans are allocated for a medical city.


- The 22.6 km long double road that runs between the high plateau is being implemented, which penetrates rugged rocky terrain, linking Assiut with a number of regional roads, most notably the Cairo-Assiut Western Desert Road and the Assiut Ring Road which also includes the construction of a 1.8-long bridge in Durunka.


The road is scheduled to be completed by the end of January 2019. The road is divided into 2 traffic lane with a width of 7.5 m per lane, in addition to a traffic island.


Thus, the plateau road and the "City of Nasser", west of Assiut, are a dream for the people of the governorate through the introduction and implementation of all the works in the first stage and the speed of its implementation, giving due care to the services citizens need to achieve development in Upper Egypt, provide urgent solutions to housing problems and attract new investments through the establishment of new urban communities.
