Today in New El Alamein City, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, on the sidelines of the 8th African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said President El-Sisi welcomed President Ramaphosa, underscoring Egypt’s pride in its historical and distinguished relations with South Africa. The President affirmed Egypt’s commitment to continuing joint efforts to elevate bilateral ties to broader horizons, thereby forging closer cooperation across various political, economic, trade, and investment fields to serve the mutual interests of the two brotherly countries and peoples.
President El-Sisi emphasized the vital necessity to activate existing frameworks of bilateral cooperation, welcoming the establishment of the two countries’ Joint Business Council. The President stressed the need to leverage the immense capabilities and potential of both countries to further advance development efforts and drive economic integration across the African continent.
For his part, President Ramaphosa expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s key role in fostering joint African action. He affirmed South Africa’s keenness on strengthening cooperation and coordination with Egypt, particularly given their shared visions on a number of issues and dossiers on the African and international stage.
President Ramaphosa also commended Egypt’s hosting of the African Union Coordination Meeting and its commitment to driving continental integration and development efforts. The South African President extended an invitation to President El-Sisi to pay a state visit to South Africa.
During their meeting, the two Presidents exchanged views on a multitude of regional issues, primarily the Palestinian cause. President El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation for South Africa’s honorable stance regarding the Palestinian issue. For his part, South African President Ramaphosa noted that his country’s position is rooted in Egypt’s historical stance on the issue.
President El-Sisi and the South African President reaffirmed the vital need to enhance efforts to achieve security and stability and settle conflicts through peaceful means, thereby strengthening the continent’s ability to direct its resources toward achieving sustainable development and improving the living standards of its peoples. The two Presidents also discussed the issue of irregular migration, the burdens it imposes on nations, and ways to combat it.
