Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, and Director of the Egyptian Military Academy, Major General Mohamed Salah El-Turki.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said the meeting discussed joint efforts among various relevant state agencies to raise the level of selection and preparation mechanisms for staff working in Egyptian schools. The Director of the Egyptian Military Academy reviewed the results of the admission tests for the fifth phase of the Ministry of Education's competition to recruit teachers. In this regard, President El-Sisi emphasized the vital need to improve strategies and programs to qualify and train these personnel in accordance with the highest standards, ensuring a comprehensive and suitable educational environment for students. The President also affirmed the disbursement of the monthly allowance for passing the Egyptian Military Academy courses, which lasted from 3 to 6 months, for teachers and school principals who successfully passed them, with payments set to begin during the current month of September.
The meeting also reviewed ways to strengthen cooperation with major international educational institutions and benefit from their leading expertise in preparing educational leaders. This shall contribute to developing institutional performance within schools and improving the quality of the educational process, thereby supporting the state's efforts to build a modern education system aligned with global best practices.
For his part, the Minister of Education and Technical Education highlighted the launch of a specialized training program at the Egyptian Military Academy, in collaboration with Harvard University in the United States, to qualify around 220 principals and leaders of public schools from various governorates. The Minister also reviewed cooperation with Hiroshima University to train a number of teachers, qualifying them as leaders for educational development and transferring Japanese education expertise to Egyptian schools. In this regard, the President underscored the critical importance of building teachers' capabilities as the primary pillar for school development, and fostering systems-thinking skills among school leadership to enhance the efficiency of educational institutions.
During the meeting, the Minister of Education reviewed the outcomes of his participation in the Executive Board meetings of UNICEF in New York. He presented the Egyptian experience in reforming and developing the education system, including leveraging technology and Artificial Intelligence to transition from small-scale initiatives to comprehensive system-wide reforms. This includes introducing programming and Artificial Intelligence as a subject for first-year secondary school students, and teaching it to second-year Baccalaureate students within the Engineering and Computer Science track. Mr. Abdel Latif also tackled the Egyptian experience in reducing classroom density and bridging the shortage of core subject teachers, which contributed to students returning to schools and raised attendance rates to 87%. The Minister also highlighted Egypt's efforts to strengthen cooperation with international organizations and countries facing similar challenges under the UN umbrella, aiming to transfer Egyptian expertise on addressing these challenges without imposing any additional financial burdens on those countries' budgets.
President El-Sisi confirmed the necessity of providing high-quality education by investing in human capital and enhancing the efficiency of educational leadership. This, in turn, will be reflected in improved learning outcomes and the preparation of generations capable of competing and keeping pace with future demands.
