President El-Sisi Directs Formation of Committee to Evaluate Transfer of Cemeteries in Two Areas

Stemming from Egypt's keenness on appreciating its historical icons and ancient heritage in an adequate manner, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi gave directives to form a committee, chaired by the Prime Minister and comprising all relevant authorities, specialized archeologists, and engineering consultancy firms, in order to assess the situation with regard to relocating cemeteries in Al Sayyeda Nafisa and Imam El-Shafei areas. This committee shall determine how to deal with emergency situations that led to the development plan, explore the alternatives available, and develop an integrated vision and recommendations to be announced to the public before July 1, 2023.

The President also gave directives to establish “The Cemetery of the Immortals” in a suitable location to become an edifice containing the remains of Egypt’s icons and great symbols with outstanding contributions to the homeland. It shall also encompass a museum for the artworks and antiquities found in the existing cemeteries, which are to be transferred through specialists and experts, as well as a museum for their biographies and belongings. This edifice will be a further testiment to Egypt’s appreciation of and tribute to its great people, their heritage and history over ages and generations.
